Happily, Garbage's sophomore album, Version 2.0 (Almo Sounds) doesn't live up--or down--to the band's name. The quartet, based in Madison, Wis., and consisting of singer Shirley Manson (originally from Edinburgh, Scotland), guitarists Steve Marker and Duke Erikson, and drummer Butch Vig (who produced Nirvana's album Nevermind), had never played outside the studio before recording their debut album, Garbage, in 1995. ...Ocean's Eleven (1960) and Robin and the Seven Hoods (1964). These two basically cover the "Rat Pack" phenomenon. "Ocean's Eleven" gets an edge for a semblance of plot and a winning turn by Cesar Romero as kingpin Duke Santos. "Robin" has some good musical numbers. ...Happily, Duke's aesthetic dovetails with Halston's. Like his predecessor, Duke is comfortable with knits and fabrics that drape the body in what he calls a "neo-Grecian look." His clothes are glamorous and luxurious but not outre. They have an American smartness and good sense about them without being dowdy or frumpy.
