...imposing Western values on one side and Turkey desperately trying to retain its national culture on the other. One has to question the conventional wisdom that joining the E.U. will inevitably enhance a country's standing. The different characteristics of national identity should be valued and embraced. Everyone is eager to celebrate common goals, but without individuality, the celebration becomes hollow.
