These men take Tombstone, Arizona, as their hunting preserve. Garner (Wyatt Earp) and Ryan (Ike Clanton) kill each other's brothers for a start, then proceed to the unrelated near and dear. Since Earp rides a white horse, he's the good guy. Clanton's bad--he sets other men to do his killings and, supposedly under his influence, they take aim when an enemy's back is turned and his pistol is glued to his holster...
...Liberty Valance, have become as much a part of American tradition as those on which Ford originally drew. He has chronicled every conceivable part of the West, and his personal heroes are among the most fully realized characters in motion picture history: Doc Boone (Thomas Mitchell) in Stagecoach, Wyatt Earp (Henry Fonda) in My Darling Clementine, and the men that John Wayne played in She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, The Searchers, and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance...

The third got away - with DiMaggio's money. The papers all ran big stories on the East Side Earp, as one reporter called him, but Charlie was fed up with public ity. "Patting you on the back," snapped Charlie, "doesn't put butter on my ta ble. It doesn't feed the family." And nothing seems to keep bandits out of his shop. The only...
