...eighth inning. Two men had gone out and Quinby, Yale's most uncertain batter, stood at the plate. He was wise, and Pitcher Altman was unsteady, and a base on balls was the result. Quinby started to steal second just as Speer cracked out a corking single to Easton at centre. Easton slammed the ball rather recklessly into the centre of the diamond, aiming to hold Quinby at third. Three Princeton men had gathered around the plate to stop the throw - Otto, Altman and Williams. All went for the ball and then halted, while the sphere bounded between them...
Princeton got no man beyond second base. Payne reached there on Rustin's error in the first and Ward's sacrifice; Brooks in the third on Rustin's error and Easton's sacrifice, and Bradley in the eighth on his own, and Brooks' base on balls...
Princeton went out in order till the fifth when Wilson opened the inning with a line hit which Rand fumbled, allowing Wilson to make second. Gunster was hit by a pitched ball and Brooks bunted safely. Easton and Payne followed with hits, but Brooks was put out as he over ran second. Ward singled and Bradley sacrificed and both Trenchard and Otto made two baggers. Wilson struck out, but six runs had already been scored. For Harvard Whittemore hit for two bases but was left on second...
