Coach Floyd Stahl's boys got away to an early lead by scoring twice in the second inning. Jack Wallace, leading off, was walked. Eckenroth then rolled what looked like an easy double play ball to Dick Stoeber, the opposing third baseman; but he threw the ball wide of second, Wallace going to third and Eckenroth to second. Steve "Legs" Bucek rified a clean single down the third base line, sending in the two runners...

He walked the first batter, Tom Barrett, then picked up Duke Duzukola's easy grounder and spoiled a double killing by heaving the pellet to Carlton in centerfield, Barrett and Duzukola advancing a base of course. Then came the first of two wild pitches, but Eckenroth's throw to Wallace was in time to catch Barrett coming home. On the next wild heave, which Wallace threw soon afterwards, they weren't quickly enough to nab Duzukola before he could cross the platter...
