...pleasant enough fun, and pretty to watch. Harrison, apparently modeling himself after Bernard Shaw as a boy of 40, sports a handsome beaver. Miss Tierney wears beautiful turn-of-the-century dresses designed by her former husband, Oleg Cassini; her acting is neither better nor worse than usual. Edna Best is skilled and sweet as her maid, and George Sanders obviously enjoys playing a ninny, for a change, instead of the velvet scourge of womankind...
Praised from all sides by his banqueting flock: roly-poly old (seventyish) Father Divine, who celebrated his year-old marriage to blonde Edna Rose Ritchings, 22, with a medium-staggering dinner in Pine Brook, NJ. Over the happy couple gleamed a purple neon sign: "God's Holy Communion Table of Palace Mission." The bride wore a white gown and gold slippers. Fifty girls in uniforms marked with Vs (for Virtue, Victory and Virginity) choired the host's praises. The guests sat down in early afternoon to a menu featuring 60 kinds of meat, 54 vegetables, 23 salads, eleven...

The real star of the show is an ex-Quiz Kid named Vanessa Brown...
James Walker was satisfyingly oily as the evil Fatt and the other incarnations Odets gives him, and Helen McCloskey was impressive as Joe's inspiring wife, Edna. The only other standout in a very competent cast was John Mann, who in the difficult role of Agate Keller was almost perfect, setting a fine pace at the beginning of his famous closing speech and faltering only in his failure to maintain a crescendo of voice until the final cry of "Strike...
