All the men cleared the bar the first time. Chamberlain's jumping, although effective, was marked by effort and lack of grace. As the bar went up Bachelder first retired. Soon afterward Fessenden failed to clear the bar. Rogers and Chamberlain continued, until Rogers missed after three trials. Chamberlain. Chamberlain was thus left the winner, with a record of 4 feet 8 1-2 inches...
