...would still not be in our best interests to call the kisses of first-graders acts of sexual harassment. We could decry the boys' actions without appealing to sexual harassment laws. When we do make such an appeal, we teach young girls that they are, even in the most egalitarian of situations, victims by default. To call such behavior inappropriate is one thing; to impose preconceived notions about gender roles upon innocent six-year-olds is another. Ironically, the law that was designed to promote equality in the workplace is now being used to teach inequality in the schools...
That said, religious celebration in the houses must be characterized by both an inclusive, egalitarian and educational nature. The spirit of such a defiantly open religious policy is best served by a radical sense of ceremony, in which all fellow house residents should not only be allowed to take part, but should also be encouraged to do so. Further, the treatment of religious celebrations within the houses, and any distribution of house funds for these events, must be conducted in a non-discriminatory manner; all religious denominations who request space or funds should be treated equally, though the grants themselves...
