Francis Taylor's predecessor as director of the Metropolitan, famed Egyptologist Herbert Eustis Winlock, resigned last April because of ill health. When he tackles the job next May, Director Taylor will face many a knotty problem. Chief problem will be to regain some of the initiative the Metropolitan has lost to younger, less stodgy Manhattan museums, notably the Museum of Modern Art in its shiny new blue glass home (TIME, May 22). There, instead of at the Metropolitan, will open next week the show of Renaissance masterpieces which Italy sent last year to the San Francisco Fair. Another poser...

Suddenly a mysterious little man who looked like an anachronism appeared from nowhere. He was tremendously interesting from the point of view of both the Egyptologist and the psychoanalyst and even to Vag. It seemed almost certain that he was scurrying off to some clandestine meeting, deep in the entrails of Boylston Street, so Vag took pursuit. Of course it was bitterly disappointing to Vag's visions of international intrigue when he saw the little man turn off and head for Harvard Hall, but still hopeful, Vag followed him into the lecture room and procured a seat directly behind...

...gracious gesture, perhaps, the University Theatre brought Harold Lloyd to the screen Sunday in the role of a Harvard graduate. "Professor Beware" is another of the bespectacled comedian's carefully planned slapsticks, this time about an egyptologist who notes a curious resemblance between his life and that of a legendary subject of Pharaoh. Adventures with hoboes, police, and Phyllis Welch finally lead Mr. Lloyd to the hilarious riot that habitually climaxes his films. It is amusing throughout and genuinely funny in spots...
