...Kennedy’s “context” is filled with errors few undergraduates would make. He seems to be unaware that Gaza shares a border with Egypt. He thinks the recent war in Gaza began “at the beginning of the Obama presidency,” when it ended two days before Barack Obama took the oath of office. He believes Israel preemptively attacked Jordan in 1967, when in fact Jordan struck first by shelling Jerusalem...

...Israel preemptively attacked Egypt, Jordan and Syria, and occupied the West Bank and Gaza, largely populated by refugees of 1948, as well as East Jerusalem, the Golan Heights and Sinai (later returned to Egypt). This generated another approximately 200,000 Palestinian refugees who were also forbidden to return. Since 1973, Israeli governments have gradually moved about 400,000 Jewish settlers into the West Bank and another 200,000 into East Jerusalem, appropriating about 50 percent of the land (when roads and other infrastructure are taken into account), taking over the water, and alternately exploiting and starving the West Bank...

...Khadra Abed Rabu (from the same clan), matched his account of the shootings, and certainly the family's grief and anger appear genuine. Two of the daughters died of bullet wounds, Palestinian doctors say, while the third, Samar, was evacuated from Shifa Hospital by the Red Crescent through Egypt and airlifted to a Belgian hospital, where she lies paralyzed. "Samar still doesn't know that her two sisters died," says Abed Rabu. "We don't want to shock her while she is still so fragile...

...Israel secured pledges from Egypt, the European Union and the U.S. to stop the weapons flow into Gaza. But Gazans are worried that if the tunnels are closed, that could cut off the few threads of commerce and supplies leading into Gaza. "If Israel keeps the borders sealed off, we'll keep digging, and only Allah can stop us. Let the Israelis drop their bombs. Without the tunnels, we can't survive anyway," says Aymad. "And if a bomb catches me underground, well, they won't have to dig my grave...
