MORE or less complaint has been made relative to the coaching of the second eight of the 'Varsity. It is urged that they do not receive enough attention, and are dependent upon chance coaches. Now the facts in this case are these, that Captain Bancroft has coached them whenever he could spare the time, and when he has been prevented from doing this, other members of the first eight have taken his place. It seems as if the men who are now rowing in the University Crew ought to know enough about pulling an oar to coach the second eight...

...suggestion about University Lectures which was made in the last Advocate is certainly worth the consideration of the Faculty. The failure of these lectures eight years ago ought not to be any objection to trying them again now, as we have become much more of a University since that time. The reason alleged was, "that it would establish a bad precedent, and tend to lessen the interest in the eight-oared race." This certainly seems rather a foolish idea, for one would think that if a Freshman race and a single-scull race could be arranged between the two colleges, to come off at the same time with the "Varsity," it would rather increase than diminish the interest. But as the H. U. B. C. offered...

...inundates that hapless college with charges of cowardice, etc., etc. He says Yale found in 1875 that it was folly for her to row with Cornell, and expect to win honors, and so backed out of the R. A. A. C. and now, in refusing to row Cornell in eight-oars, she shows the same lack of courage. If this gentleman really believes what he has written, he must have an unlimited faculty for swallowing utter nonsense and twaddle of the rankest description. It is all very well for Cornell and Columbia to accuse Yale and Harvard of cowardice...
