SURPRISE is an essential element in Cunningham's compositions. He switches wildly from movement to movement, from mood to mood, never employing the traditional ABA structure that every beginning choreographer is taught to respect. The result is a fragmented, elusive kind of brilliance which is in great part due to the unusual richness of Cunningham's choreographic vocabulary. So, in his solo, "Collage III," Cunningham lightly explodes from one motion to the next. There are no echoes in the dance. He sculpts random and beautiful moods in the air. For some the experience is wonderful...
Harrowing Operation. Some 5,000 North Vietnamese troops closed in on the Kham Due outpost astride Route 14 about 70 miles from Kontum. The post was defended by 1,300 allied soldiers; most of them were civilian irregulars, reinforced by a U.S. Marine artillery platoon and an element of the U.S. 196th Light Infantry Brigade. Kham Due shaped up as the kind of set-piece battle that General William Westmoreland yearned for in the early days of the massive U.S. presence in Viet Nam, when so much of his military force was expended in fruitless hunts for an enemy refusing...

After realizing that the liquid must contain some material in addition to salt and water, Kafatos guessed that an enzyme, a chemical agent that helps break down or "digest" other chemicals, was the liquid's active element...

They were able to produce the liquid. At that point Kafatos still had no idea where the active element was synthesized...
Study in man is vastly complicated by the fact that the human brain contains an estimated 10 billion nerve cells called neurons, and another 100 billion of a second type called glial cells. The fluid bath in which they are suspended is an important element in their electrochemical interactions. Moreover, said Sweden's Dr. Holger Hydén, one big neuron may have on its surface as many as 10,000 points of contact (synaptic knobs) with other neurons (see chart). But by means of exquisitely delicate instrumentation and an electron microscope, Dr. Hydén has discovered that...
