Last year, the varsity upset a powerful Eli squad down at New Haven to take the Eastern League title. They defend this laurel now without the services of Dale Junta and Larry Sears,--first two singles men and the first doubles pair--who have both graduated. Yale, on the other hand, has its top six men back intact, and it will take another magnificent effort like last May's for Barnaby's team to overcome the New Haven powerhouse...

Mack Harrell sang Jesus with great expressiveness; the most tender moment of the whole afternoon as it should have been, was his "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani...
...Crimson had a Freshman team this year comparable to the standard Yale product. Eli depth, especially in the distances, will remain strong through the next two years. Two proven performers and several more potential stars will rise to the varsity ranks next winter, but this does not make the Crimson better than Yale...
...even in the hands of as good an actor as Jason Robards Jr., is hardly more than a cliché cut out of old newspapers. Maria Schell was moving enough as Maria, but the sentimentally written character scarcely seemed real, while Maureen Stapleton lacked the necessary hardness for Pilar. Eli Wallach was superb as the irresponsible gypsy Rafael. But in a far too slowly paced production, it was only Pablo, the broken guerrilla leader, who became a really moving figure; as played by Nehemiah Persoff, the wreck of a once brave man had touches of real tragedy, and strangely...
