It was a clean, fast hockey game most of the way, thanks to the strict refereeing of Paul Cleary and John Foley. Unfortunately for the Elis, who apparently were not used to careful refereeing, the burden of the penalty calls fell on them.

Otherwise, the Crimson was helpless before the better prepared Eli wrestlers. The Blue faced more severe competition than Harvard this season and the Elis, a "rough, tough bunch of boys," according to Butch Jordan, seemed to have benefited from it.
