Died. Sir Ronald Ross, 75, discoverer of the malaria parasite in the Anopheles mosquito; in London. Composer, poet, playwright, novelist, mathematician, he was called a modern Elizabethan. He entered the Indian Medical Service at 24; began an unofficial search for the malaria-transmitting mosquito at 35. His interfering superiors finally gave him six months in which to investigate the 2,000-year-old problem of malaria and the still unsolved problem of kala azar.
