¶ The Navy, properly subdued after the whacking which it received from Davis-Elkins, was unable to prevent Weston, a Boston College back, from making the one touchdown in a dreary game.
The Navy played Davis-Elkins and lost its first game by a touchback, 0-2. "Pugh," shouted the supporters of Davis-Elkins after the game was over. They were not being rude to the young disappointed sailors but acclaiming the tough centre on their sturdy line.
Mrs. Caleb F. Fox of Elkins Park, Pa. (near Philadelphia), was the old lady. In 1895, she played in the first Women's National and scored 132. In the years after that she was seen walking briskly from tee to green on almost every golf course in the land...
