...just turned 16, but because a week earlier I had been dragged, kicking and screaming, out of the closet where I had hidden with my sexuality since the sixth grade. I was secretly dating a senior, Joseph Ragsdale, the desire of many wistful females and the target of endless gay-bashing. In the past, students had spray-painted slurs on his car and adorned it with pornography. The student body even renamed him Joseph Fagsdale. I knew openly dating a popular gay figure on campus would not only “out” me but also intensify...

...just a few days - and what routines become, well, routine. Since arriving here in Salt Lake City, I've acquainted myself with the intricacies of metal detectors, learned that no one cares what book I'm reading, and formulated a special dance step that helps me sail through the endless security screenings: Step, unzip coat, open coat, twirl, take off ski hat, move through the metal detector, pause and smile. Works like a charm...

...magazine editor, I wasn't all that surprised to read Roger Rosenblatt's take on historian Stephen Ambrose's brush with plagiarism [VIEWPOINT, Jan. 21]. The vast amounts of information available on the Internet provide endless opportunities for free "cut-and-paste" material. In one year, my publication caught three writers who had lifted--almost directly--Internet information for use in their stories. But as investors in U.S.-based telecommunications company Global Crossing have learned, "endless demand" turned out to be another New Economy nostrum. Anticipating a data tsunami that never came, Global Crossing built a $10 billion, 160,000-km fiber-optic network spanning two oceans and four continents. Last week, the New York Stock Exchange-listed company filed for U.S. bankruptcy court protection in order to restructure its $12.3 billion debt...

...tired of The Crimson’s endless moralizing and trite commentary regarding Suzanne Pomey and Randy Gomes, two fellow students I had never heard of until these pages broke the story of the sinful origins of their “lavish lifestyle” (is that what we consider drug addiction to be?). Now your columnists can’t seem to get enough of the humiliation in store for them and have jumped on this opportunity to grind axes against the people who seek attention, dress expensively and don’t acknowledge them in the halls. Grand...
