...Without a doubt, though, hats go off to the two performers who save the show. The first, surprisingly, is Sir Evelyn Oakleigh. Played by Rodrigo Chazaro '99, Evelyn is the stuffy Englishman whose heart is turned by Reno Sweeny, the nightclub queen herself. And Chazaro plays his character like no other--his cutesy navet, his unfailingly proper demeanor, even his specific vocal inflections are flawless. The second, and even more outstanding, is Reno Sweeny herself, played by Vered Metson '01. Metson's performance is utterly captivating--in this sense, she literally saves the show. Imperfections in other portions...
...quiet, implacable Englishman--he may as well be a ghost--scours L.A. for his daughter's murderer. Nothing much, nothing new here, unless you care to study how the fingernails of time have raked across Terence Stamp's still handsome face, or see Peter Fonda playing the cool drug lord his Easy Rider character might have become. As he did in Out of Sight, Soderbergh slices, dices and Cuisinarts the script into flashbacks, scene shifts, stop motion and other distracting foolery. Is he working out a new form of visual storytelling, or has the ever-so-promising director...

In typical hippy style they backpack it to Bilal's hometown, to a lakeside campground, a rich Englishman's house and so on, constantly looking for food and money. Getting separated from first Bilal and then the daughter Bea Keeps the plot moving, and the wonderful shots of Morocco (the film was shot entirely on location) flirt with your eyes...
...Orbiter 3 crossed the finish line (9.27[degrees] west longitude) over Mauritania last Saturday. Piccard was ecstatic: "I am with the angels and just completely happy," he said over satellite relay. Jones, for his part, said calmly, "I am going to have a cup of tea, like any good Englishman." They had sailed into history. And they decided to sail on a little more. "We do not land. We go to Egypt," Piccard radioed air-traffic control in Senegal. "We are a balloon flying around the world." "I will be tearing their eyes out when I see them," their erstwhile...
