That's "room" as in "chatroom." Although some of her fans seem to regard her as a stripper, Ebony (she prefers not to give her real name) is in fact an Internet jockey, or IJ. The show is broadcast on the popular Enterchannel Web TV station: her audience communicates with her through keyboards, she responds via microphone and Webcam. She poses, dances and, yes, sometimes slips off her bra?nothing more. It's pretty tame stuff by the standards of Japanese and U.S adult sites. But it's enough for the guardians of Korean morality to get their knickers...

The president of one station has already been sentenced to a year in jail for violating obscenity provisions of Korea's broadcasting laws, two others received suspended sentences and around 10 more are in jail, awaiting trial. Enterchannel is likely to get off with a $16,000 fine but Ebony was hauled in for questioning. ...stations say they are the victims of vaguely worded obscenity laws. "If there was a clear guideline, we'd follow it," says Yoo Jung Rae, an Enterchannel manager. "We're businessmen, not criminals." Even police concede Korean sites aren't exactly racy by international standards, but they say they can't move ahead of community standards...
