...Enter Jobs. Back in April, Apple's CEO revealed that he had spent the previous year negotiating an unprecedented deal with all five major labels and thousands of independents. His iTunes software, which had previously been nothing more than a place to store and play digital music on a Mac, would become a gateway to the Music Store, where you could easily find and save music to your hard drive, CD or iPod music player--no subscription necessary, just 99˘ per song, or $9.99 for an album. Competitors tried to match that price but couldn't come up with...

Just about everybody agrees that we would be better off using hydrogen instead of gas for fuel. For starters, hydrogen makes water vapor instead of carbon monoxide when it's burned. But building a safe, efficient hydrogen vehicle is another matter. Enter the Aqwon, the first hydrogen-powered scooter to meet Germany's stringent regulatory standards. The Aqwon can hit 30 m.p.h. with its two-stroke engine, but the biggest challenge was building a fuel tank that could safely store the hydrogen. In case of accident or fire, the Aqwon's tank simply freezes. If only the Hindenburg...

There's nothing like a crackling fire made from good old-fashioned firewood. But real logs produce lots of soot and carbon dioxide, and real trees often have to be felled to make them. Enter the Java Log. Made from used coffee grounds, it boasts a higher heat density than real wood, so it can burn hotter and last longer. When TIME compared the Java Log to a Duraflame (a log made of sawdust and wax), the Java Log ignited more quickly and produced taller, prettier flames. But does it make your house smell like a Starbucks store...

...Harvard? The answer is clear. It is equally clear, however, which groups provide a more solid jumping-off point to positions of influence after Harvard. The real tragedy of the gender divide noted by Larson is that by siphoning off in these respective directions, we (men and women) enter real-world politics in the same skewed proportions. In later life, former PBHA volunteers and SFC activists will be writing letters to their male classmates who now run the government, demanding that they not cut funding for the services these women rely on or provide. And will these women then...

...Holy Cross, Providence College, the kind of schools that when my buddies came home for Thanksgiving freshman year they started getting the shakes because they hadn’t gone more than a day or two without booze since the summer. Whenever I would visit them, RAs would randomly enter rooms and look for alcohol, being allowed to throw parties in dorm rooms was unheard of, and people were being constantly written up and disciplined for drinking...
