Lionel de Jersey Harvard was born at Lewisham, England, on June 3, 1893, the son of Mr. Thomas Harvard, a prosperous London business man. At the age of eighteen he was entered for Emmanuel College, Cambridge, where many of his ancestors, including John Harvard, had received their education.
