Currently, the Jacobs stables contain 60 horses. Forty are in active competition. The rest are learning the business at the Jacobs farm in Maryland. The majority of both groups are "platers" (cheap horses entered in races of which any entrant can be claimed by anyone for a price stated by its owner beforehand).
