...Often compared to a young Yoko Ono, Wong feels an overwhelming impulse to create; she wrote the seven tracks on the ethereal Sometime Next Galaxy - her new, seven-song EP - in a single burst. "Very often, the demo is the final song you hear on the record," she says. "It's direct and honest." But these are demos, one should add, that benefit from the luscious mastering of London-based Mandy Parnell, who has previously worked with Leslie Feist, Sigur Rós and Depeche Mode. And besides, Wong has ambitions that go beyond her computer's minimalist bleeps...
...That look includes a special line of (what else?) White Shoes sneakers designed by Bandung-based clothing retailer 347, as well as their own model of Vespa scooter - the ultimate Mod accessory. Artwork for the band's latest release, the five-song EP Skenario Masa Muda, reveals an abiding passion for Mod style. ...strengths. Is Sunset Rubdown eclipsing its more venerated siblings? Offering their third LP for Wolf Parade’s incubating second, one may rush to say yes. Flaws aside, Krug is definitely onto something. But while the five or six strongest tracks here would make for an excellent EP, the remainder hinders a band that has not yet fully blossomed. While “Random Spirit Lover” has its standouts, it’s not unreasonable to want more from one of indie’s rising institutions...
