Ready for presidential signature this week: a bill designed to put an end to what the U.S. broadcasting industry considers a ridiculous abuse of the so-called "equal-time" rule, by which any station that puts a political candidate on the air must give equal time to every other qualified candidate who demands it. ...orthodox Roman Catholics differ in their judgments about Harvard's "challenge" to their faith. One half of the staunch Catholics have never "reacted either partially or wholly" against the Church, but about an equal number affirm there was a time when their views "could fairly have been called 'agnostic' or 'atheistic.'" Freud's Moses and Monotheism or The Future of an Illusion must provoke nearly equal distress; one atheist passes up all alternatives listed on the questionnaire and writes, "God is man's interpretation of what dissatisfies him.... A rejection of God comes through progress towards understanding one's emotional condition." Another similarly explains, "psychological insight: God is a product of man; the most valuable part...

What the National Education Association calls for is a "significant" inoculation of federal money. The Government is already spending $2 billion yearly on education. A full dose would be strong medicine. If the "educational deficit" is really $9 billion, it is equal to more than 10% of the entire federal budget. No Congress would dream of spending that amount without peering into curriculums, and the prospects are not cheery...
