After spending $20 million to develop a miniaturized on-board TV camera for the Apollo spacecraft and equip tracking stations to receive its signals, NASA officials last month decided to limit its use to only two brief transmissions - one during the third manned orbital flight, the other while astronauts are actually walking on the surface of the moon. NASA's official reason for the curtailed use of in-flight TV was that the camera (which weighs only 71 Ibs.) pushed Apollo too close to its weight limitations...

...South Vietnamese with the best U.S. weaponry, and the first ARVN units received M-16 rifles late last year. Now the supply will be speeded up-and broadened. Defense Secretary Clifford announced last week a dramatic increase in the U.S. production of the M-16 so as to equip all ARVN units by midsummer. The South Vietnamese will also be issued a new type of improved mortar, more armored personnel carriers, better communications equipment. By then, Prime Minister Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam of the Hindu-backed Independence Party hopes to diversify the economy and lure new foreign investment. To avert violence, Britain will also help train and equip Mauritius' police and armed forces. As added protection, a company of the King's Shropshire Light Infantry will remain on the island as long as they are needed. That could be for some time...
