...turning point something went wrong-perhaps a failure in the Snark's guidance system. Ignoring its ground-to-electronic-brain orders, the errant missile veered sharply out of flight pattern and shot westward. When the missile's ground-locked pilots realized it was out of control, they pushed the button that was supposed to blow it up in midair. But the Snark refused to commit suicide. When last seen by radar, it was slipping over the South American horizon. Happily, it carried no warhead...
...correspondents got to Port Said last fortnight, the fighting was virtually over-and Paris-Match Photographer-Reporter Jean Roy, 34, had the situation well in hand. The big (6 ft., 190 Ibs.), handsome Frenchman (real name: Yves Leleu) was living up to his legend as the fire-eating knight-errant of war journalism. In the 24 hours since he had landed with the first French ground troops, Roy had taken over two jeeps and a Chevrolet truck, daubed each with a new license plate, "Balzac 00-24" (the phone number of Paris-Match), and whirled through a typical swashbuckling round...
...bewilderment. When there is logic, it is carried to such an extreme that it becomes ridiculous. Yet, every so often Ionesco shows us a glimmering of reality that other writers seldom uncover. Ionesco is often incomprehensible, but seldom meaningless, and he seems to be saying "Look how strange and funny mankind...
...more enthusiasm than Hun gary's bullet-headed Matyas Rakosi. He eliminated his enemies (notably former Foreign Minister Laszlo Rajk) on the charge of "Titoism" and missed no opportunity for verbal abuse of Tito himself. Then Big Brother told all good Communists they had to be nice to errant Little Brother Tito-or else. It was Tito's turn, and he demanded Rakosi eat a full portion of crow, and be quick about...
...Laurence and Cheesecake Marilyn! [Feb. 20]. The world is now crumbling on all sides of us! Britain's leading thespian has sold his cinematic soul. Surely this knight errant is jousting when he refers to Miss Monroe's hip-flipping talents as "ethereal." Perhaps a remake of Hamlet is proposed? If so, the event would truly be an occasion to make the Danes melancholy, for the dramatic climax would, no doubt, be Marilyn as Ophelia frisking about the lily pads clad in a bikini for a real razzle-dazzle death scene. At this point, the profit-sharing prince...
