Although there are a number of copies of the work still extant, this particular volume is considered to be of special value because of its excellent condition, its well-preserved map the length of time it has remained in one family, and especially for its appended Errata which is lack-in most of the other copies...

The heavy rod of seventeenth century New England righteousness falls upon them both -upon Hester socially, upon Dimmesdale spiritually. In spite of numerous opportunities for sentimental errata, the film records truly, as the novelist saw, the inevitably tragic and ennobling consequences of their suffering.
