...some of Stillman's ineffectiveness, and also weakened the batting of the team. Kendall showed some improvement over his recent work, but in the third inning was called out for leaving second too soon on a fly catch, and so lost a good chance to score. Clark's only error was in the sixth inning and was very costly; otherwise he played a good game, especially in throwing to first. BROWN. a.b. r. b.h. p.o. a. e. ...Freshmen won the baseball series with the Yale freshmen by defeating them on the University diamond Saturday afternoon. Harvard scored eight runs by batting and by taking advantage of Yale's errors. Clarkson pitched remarkably well, striking out nineteen men, and with good support would have shut Yale out. The fielding on both sides was slow and uncertain, allowing several men to be credited with hits who should have been retired. The Yale infield was much superior to Harvard's, but the outfielders were slow in returning hits and did not cover much ground. Next to Clarkson, Story...

Wescott took Alsop's place in the next inning, and allowed but one hit. A base on balls, errors by Baldwin and Dever, and Tobin's single gave Yale two runs in the fourth. Yale's last two runs were made in the seventh...

The Freshmen made two runs in the fourth on hits by Clarkson, Van Amringe and Lovering, and a few moments later the Juniors tied the score on Quincy's hit, and a series of errors by the Freshmen. In the next four innings the Freshmen made nine runs by hard hitting and by errors. The Juniors made their last...
...game by striking out nineteen men and allowing but one hit. Marean had four passed balls and threw poorly to second, but made two hits. Lovering's showing at first base was very good, although he has had no practice in the position; he accepted seven chances without an error. The feature of the game, besides Clarkson's pitching, was the brilliant throwing of Matthews, shortstop for Andover. The score by innings: Innings, 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 runs. b.h. e.
