They thought they could terrorize the public into submission, but they failed to realize the temper of the people of Boston. Third, admitting that William Brown, the negro lynched, was guilty, and even deserved the death penalty the citizens of Omaha have presumably elected city, officials whose business it is to administer justice. The moment that a single citizen "took the matter into his own hands" he transgressed the law of the state and of the nation, and, in killing Brown committed murder. Furthermore, he introduced into Omaha the principle of anarchy. The individual became superior to the government and to the law. If we want mob law in our country, why not go about it in an orderly fashion...

With sufficient obsequies to Professor Osterhout and the guiding spirits of the Dinning Association the opinion might even be ventured that the Professor's advice had already been obtained upon this salient point, and that he had prescribed a formula for the mixture to be called scrambled eggs, differing but slightly from his staged elements of fats and sugar. There should be sunlight,--yes, because the resulting product is yellow--and water, too. It is hard, though, to believe in the preparation.
