...Hugo Chavez claims that Latin America is witnessing a major anti-U.S. leftward swing. Case in point: the victory in last month's Bolivian presidential race of Chavez ally Evo Morales. This week, the two men met briefly as Morales toured the region. Chavez declared: "The axis of evil-do you know who the axis of evil is? Washington-that's the axis of evil. And their allies in the world, who threaten, who invade, who kill, who assassinate." As for himself, Morales and kindred spirits, the Venezuelan leader said, "We are creating the axis of good...

...Actually, far more people watch 24-an addictive comic book of a show-than the serious films. There is an indomitable hero, Jack Bauer, who saves the world from evil with stunning regularity. But Bauer is different from pre-9/11 action heroes: he routinely and rather zestfully tortures people, which almost always results in the acquisition of crucial information. ...necessity of coping with the devastation in Azad Kashmir has strengthened the precarious cease-fire and forced the Pakistanis to open up. On the mountainsides where thousands of refugee tents have sprouted between collapsed buildings, the U.S. military is delivering drinking water to camps run by "Axis of Evil" nemesis Iran; U.S. and NATO soldiers flirt with Cuban nurses. But the most surreal partnership of all is between the U.S. military and Islamic militants from groups like Lashkar-e-Toiba, branded by Washington as terrorists. Bemused to find himself at daily briefings in Muzaffarabad with U.S. and NATO military commanders...

...average American is simply sick of the U.S. spending our money and our young people's lives for political ideals. What would Americans do if Saddam Hussein or any other world leader believed that Bush was evil and decided to trump up charges to end his term? I'm a Vietnam veteran, and if that happened, I would start making some car bombs. What right do we have to police the world? Iraq is an Arab problem and should be solved by the Arab world. How about sending more politicians into combat? Charles Delling Waterford, Michigan...
