...Except that when he argued in favor of abortion rights and I took the pro-life side, I was backed into the opposite logical corner in about five minutes more, as he laid out scenarios involving autonomy, and control over our bodies, the proper role of the state in matters of health and privacy and family life...

...scent. A Pakistani intelligence official says Pakistani intelligence agents and CIA drones are searching the mountainsides for the second group that crossed from Afghanistan. In the message delivered last week, bin Laden signaled he would not allow himself to be captured alive. "I swore that I will not die except free, despite the bitter taste of death," he said. ...Except for one undisputable one: Takafumi Horie himself. The college dropout, who started what became Livedoor in 1997, is the author of no fewer than 17 books celebrating his moneymaking, cash-grabbing ethos, with titles like ?Earning Money is Everything: From Zero to 10 Billion Yen My Way?. He appeared to be living proof of his boast. Over the past five fiscal years, Livedoor has acquired 27 companies, increasing revenue 22-fold to nearly $800 million. He has also been an aggressive financial democrat, constantly splitting his stock so that younger and less well-off Japanese can afford to become...
