...program starts with an excerpt from George Balanchine’s “The Four Temperaments.” It is classical ballet choreography, and yet, Balanchine is a revolutionary of the art form. His dancers break some of the cardinal rules of ballet in their movements, while simultaneously maintaining the spirit of ballet and taking the discipline to a new level. Thus, it is a fitting opening piece, demonstrating dancing talent, while challenging conceptions of what is dance and what dance can mean. The technical skills of the dancers in this portion of the show were impressive...

Next I checked out the online version of Oprah's book club, where through Labor Day readers are discussing Cane River by Lalita Tademy. Unlike other clubs I visited, oprah.com lets you click on an audio excerpt read by the author. The chat room was pretty dead, but plenty of people had posted messages. But even gushing endorsements such as "I cannot express how much I love this book" and "I was totally mesmerized by Cane River" couldn't get me past the first 100 pages...

...vote making George W. Bush President, the point is far from moot. And last week the mystery took another turn, thanks to former American Spectator character assassin David Brock, the man designated by the right to destroy Hill's reputation and scrub Thomas'. Brock confesses in a Talk magazine excerpt of his new book, Blinded by the Right, that he had printed "virtually every derogatory and often contradictory allegation" he could to make Hill seem "a little bit nutty and a little bit slutty." If that was all Brock did, we might have nothing more than another sin committed...
