...better or for worse, there is no Good Samaritan law in Harvard’s rulebooks. In sending an emergency evacuation directive last week, the Harvard Accessible Education Office (AEO) unwittingly thrust this subject into the campus spotlight. The e-mail explicitly instructed students NOT (in capital letters) to attempt to assist their disabled peers in the event of an emergency. Immediately after the directive was disseminated, House e-mail lists lit up with students alternately deeming the policy immoral and necessary. On its face, the policy may seem heartless. But it is the best way for Harvard...
...popularity. This weekend, a message was left for readers explaining a temporary loss of service—higher volumes of visitors forced the site to upgrade and repair their network. The site administrator’s message also acknowledged the controversy surrounding the forum, justifying the “explicit, even gruesome, images of wartime violence.” He encouraged remembrance of World War II, when censorship dominated the press, reverence for the First Amendment, and recollection of a Time magazine caption: “Dead men have indeed died in vain if live men refuse to look...
Actually, I just committed a cardinal sin of editorial writing with that last sentence. I assigned blame, nebulously, to “Fly-By,” when I should have been more explicit. It’s our fault. All it would take to fix Fly-By is a conscious choice on the part of Fly-By-goers to treat the different food stations at Fly-By like they treat the different food stations at the Greenhouse. Once we’ve all filled up our bags...

But where was a more explicit reference to the role of German Catholics in allowing the Nazi deportation of millions of Jews? And where was some reference to the German Pope's own experience? After all, the teenage Joseph Ratzinger was drafted into the Hitler Youth in his native Bavaria, against his will and the wishes...
...with a restrictive Adults Only label. No surprise there. Less expected, however, is the major role Democrats have played in the campaign to protect children from nasty video games. The Democratic-controlled Illinois legislature recently passed a bill that would make it a crime to sell violent or sexually explicit games to kids under 18. Hillary Clinton, who has been among the most outspoken critics of Grand Theft Auto, is working on a similar bill...
