He was the author of "Edvard Munch," the first English biography of the Norwegian expressionist. After its publication in 1950, Deknatel was awarded the "Knight's Cross First Class, of the Royal Order of St. Olaf" by the Norwegian government...

...with an audience and then successfully condescending to it. "I don't make films exclusively for children," Walter Elias Disney once remarked. "I make them to suit myself, hoping they will also suit the audience." As on film, so in the environments: Disney was nothing if not an expressionist, and he built the old Magic Kingdom in Anaheim, Calif., and the new one in Orlando to please himself. On cleaning, the Magdalen's lively painted eyes, light skin and polychrome garments were restored. Thus its whole content has changed...

...maze of companies like a pear-shaped Minotaur, Lloyd seemed, until lately, to have created an impregnable position for himself. But next fall Marlborough goes to court to defend itself in a civil suit almost without precedent in the art world. The heirs of the late abstract expressionist Mark Rothko, together with the New York State attorney general, are charging that Marlborough and the executors of Rothko's estate conspired between them to defraud the estate by grossly undervaluing the paintings...
