...Britain, Poland and the Czech Republic "fall into line soon." That phrase should fill the people of Europe with dread. Democratic nations are a collection of people who are governed by those chosen to serve them. The majority of the people of Britain have no confidence in an expensive, faceless bureaucracy such as the E.U. I urge all Europeans to consider the potential consequences of union, since these consequences are likely to play out the current fears we all have over our economies - economies that have been wrecked largely by incompetent British and currently inconvenienced American power players. ...Rockefeller gave his closing argument on Sept. 29 to the Senate Finance Committee in support of his amendment to create a new government-run health-insurance plan, he sounded amply frustrated. Describing the people of his state, he said they were "out in the cold" and "helpless" against faceless insurance bureaucrats who treat them unfairly. In Please Have Some Medicine (pictured), he is a dying hospital patient being offered Coca-Cola by a faceless North Korean child. ...Secretary until he withdrew his nomination amid a controversy over unpaid taxes. Conservatives charge that this would put Washington in the middle of decisions that are best left to doctors and patients. But would Americans really find a faraway government bureaucrat any more objectionable in that role than a faceless private insurance company that makes those decisions now? Either way, Congress is going to want to have a say in shaping the benefits package. What still needs to be resolved is how much congressional involvement it makes sense to have...
