...much heralded, and by some much feared, parade passed into history with nothing to make it famous but the fact that it was orderly from start to finish. Perhaps this is enough, however, to give it a prominent place in the annals, as parades go, but we are beginning to doubt it. After all it is being evidenced more and more each year that the foolishness and childishness of the average undergraduate is in a healthier condition of restraint than ten, twenty or thirty years ago, and we are optimistic to the extent that we believe this state of affairs...
...generally recognized fact that the Freshman football team is the most important class team. Every class wants its Freshman team to beat Yale--this, by the way, has not been done for several years. In order to turn out a winning team it is essential to have a large squad. For the past few days not even a full second team has reported for practice. Do you call this support? Come out, everyone who can, and help the team on. No team can win without support. We must have more backing, and backing can come largely from the players...

In fact, two-thirds of this series consists of either first states or the only states of the plates represented. Nanteuil was the greatest master of pure line engraving of his age, and no such engraving of any time is superior to his. He was himself a portraitist of consummate skill...
...spite of the fact that the class of 1909 has never won the class football championship, and although this is the last chance to do so, there does not seem to be enough interest among the men in the class to come out in sufficient numbers to make up even two teams. Furthermore, many of those who have come out do not report regularly for practice, which makes it almost impossible to accomplish any results in developing a team...
...This in itself is good, but it is not what the scheme purports to bring about. A class has become definitely sifted into groups by Senior year. A man's friends are made and he will inevitably move more or less completely in his own particular circle, and the fact that he meets another man in the Yard wearing a class button whom he has never seen before will rarely serve more than to tag him as a member of the Senior class. This sounds heretical to the faithful believer in the complete unity of friendship and purpose...
