Pusey's new book records the changes that took place in a clear, readable, if un-illuminating, fashion. Factual in content and very general in tone, American Higher Education 1945-1970 contains little with which one can take issue. Displaying the same aloof, non-interventionist style which characterized his tenure at Harvard, Pusey takes refuge in irrefutable statements or vague and equivocal conclusions. Every controversy discussed has two sides whose respective merits are duly presented but seldom weighed. The book is a tribute to the achievements won by higher education, rather than a critical study of education during this period...

...hovering over him. Bell and the federal attorneys in charge of the ITT probe tersely informed the Washington press corps that Monday afternoon that no criminal charges would be lodged against the board chairman. Despite the many similarities between the testimony of Geneen and his accused flunkies and the factual contradictions of his opening statement and sworn answers in later years, the 67-year-old veteran of daring coups in the world of business and shady meddlings in the field of politics--both at home and abroad--will soon retire from a career unblemished by even one criminal indictment, much...

More and more, Cisneros and her co-workers are finding that the letters are thoughtful, and require thoughtful replies. Says Cisneros: "Our writers are much more serious now. They really mean business...

American Hot Wax purports to be the saga of this modern cultural genesis, and in some ways it adequately serves this function. However, the movie re-creates the '50s and the upheaval that begat rock and roll with a disturbingly developed sense of ficto-history, portraying as true and factual that which is romanticized and basically false...

...knew the cast so well, it's hard for me to judge how useful or interesting The Ends of Power will be to the casual reader. I confess that parts of it were hard for me to follow, in spite of my familiarity with the subject. With all its factual inaccuracies, the book does give valid and important insights to anyone interested in the Nixon mystery. Unfortunately, these revelations are unduly restrained and limited in scope...
