...Bucharest, which for all its friendliness to Peking still has important military, economic and political ties to the Soviet Union. Nonetheless, with maliciously anti-Soviet timing, Hua touched down at the airport outside the Yugoslav capital on the tenth anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia. Lest anyone fail to get his point, he made it clear that night. At a state dinner given by Yugoslavia's venerable Field Marshal Josip Broz Tito, 86, Hua alluded to fears that Moscow might try to intervene after Tito's death. ...Reading Test. Required of all Freshmen. This is, as the pamphlet says, "A test to estmate reading skills." Don't worry, you can't fail, and it doesn'r really matter. If you don't do well, the University will recommend that you take a worthwhile reading comprehension course at the Bureau of Study Council. A few dumb gags about ROTC thugs and big breasts do not detract from the film's scabrous assaults on undergraduate caste systems, sanctimonious preppies and liberal pieties. Besides, how can one fail to like a campus film that kills off one of the coeds in a kiln explosion...
...gallery of worldly, dominating men whose characters might have been formed on the playing fields of Groton. But in The Country Cousin, the obligatory references to that world-St.Paul's and Yale; a Whistler in the drawing room; decrepit aunts given to decrying socialism, Jews and Roosevelt-simply fail to summon a social realm that James and Wharton made live...
