College magazines have, probably even among magazines, the most hectically varied careers known to man. They prosper, they fail, they revive; are alternately feeble, invisible and brilliant, according to the qualities of each rapidly succeeding generation. Of late, the Advocate has been passing through a period of eclipse,--if not total, at any rate partial. Before that, it was in the hands of poets and became a sort of serial anthology. With much work that was of course mediocre, it also printed a good deal of very exceptional verse by such poets as S. Foster Damon, Robert Hillyer, William Norris...
...present the necessities of the Red Cross are paramount; any donations should be made to it rather than to miscellaneous organizations. Its failure would mean the collapse of much war work of immeasurable value, and it will fail unless the whole nation co-operates in the one end of maintaining it. To do so really successfully the week of May 20-27 should see a response at least equal to the one hundred million dollar totals of the last drive...

Men will enlist in the Marines before being sent to the training camps, and if they fail to qualify for commissions they will be returned to the service as non-commissioned officers and privates...
Another chance to join the June under age camps has been offered to undergraduates. According to a letter from the Adjutant General's office published in another column, the War Department will still receive applications for these camps. The Military Office should not fail to verify this news immediately and enroll any additional men who may want to go. There is already a long list of "alternates" filed at Headquarters, and many who did not enroll before April 28 may now find it possible to join. Whatever may have been the reasons for their holding back last week, no difficulties...
