...down to about twenty men. As they have only played two games and practised together three or four times it is too early to give an individual criticism of the players. The squad as a whole is working hard and shows promise of a good nine. The batting is fair, but the fielding is still a little ragged. The batting orders follow: SECOND NINE. ADAMS ACADEMY. ...Yale baseball team played two games last week. On Monday it defeated Wesleyan, 14 to 2, and Thursday tied Amherst 3 to 3. Wesleyan was weak and Yale had an easy victory, being able to score almost at will. Yale's hitting was fair. The Amherst game was closely contested and both teams played very well for this time of year. The Yale batting was unsatisfactory, probably on account of the strength of Amherst's pitcher. The game, which was called on account of darkness at the end of the twelfth inning, was characterized throughout by fast, clean playing. Yale...
...first base, Robeson has shown the best form. He is very weak on ground balls, however, and often lets them slip by him. His batting is fair. Kernan, who has been appointed temporary captain, is covering second base. He is the hardest worker on the team and seems to put life into the other men. His batting is fairly sure and his fielding steady. Sanger at third base uses good judgment in waiting for balls and his hitting is fair. His fielding is very erratic. Greenough who is trying for shortstop does not put enough life into his playing...
Kernan batted excellently, getting three hits out of four times at bat, but fielded badly, having three costly passed balls. Daly was tried at second with only fair success. Wendell and Coolidge both made costly errors, and as a whole the infield work was disorganized. Rockwell was very weak at the bat, striking out three times, and Carr was almost as unsatisfactory. The batting of Clarkson, Stillman and Coolidge was the only good feature of Harvard's play...
...daily. The work is not far enough advanced as yet to give any individual criticism of the men, but as a whole the squad is working hard and shows good spirit. The greatest weakness is in batting; in the field the men are beginning to develop team work with fair success, though their throwing is still unsteady. There are no very promising candidates for the battery positions. The strongest point of the squad is in base-sliding and running. With conscientious work, the play should show marked improvement by the end of the holidays...
