...Freshman baseball team played a five-inning practice game with the second nine yesterday in which the final score was 4 to 4. Eight hits were made by the second team, while the Freshmen made only three. At bat the Freshmen were weak; their fielding was only fair, and their throwing slow and inaccurate, the ball being beaten to first several times on slow infield hits. Their base-running, however, was good, as seven bases were stolen. Hammond pitched a good game for the second team...

Last year the team won from Amherst by the narrow margin of 3 to 0, only six hits being made against Kane, who together with seven other members of last year's team is again playing this spring. With such a field of material, only a fair team has thus far been develop, but their defeat by Yale, 12 to 3, and by Tufts, 4 to 3, may be laid almost entirely to lack of practice. At bat he bunts well, but has a tendency to hit high balls. Nichols at first base is a hard worker and covers a good deal of ground on foul flies. He has, however, fallen off in his batting within the last two weeks. Spencer, who is trying for centre field...

...pitchers, Clarkson showed the best control, and was at all times effective. His batting, however, was weak, since he made but three hits out of fourteen times at bat. Stillman was in the box only six innings during the trip, when he showed fair control. At centrefield, he covered more ground than last year, but his hitting has fallen off considerably. Coburn had fair speed, but showed the poorest control of the three. This weakness together with the poor base-running, practically cost the West Point game. Behind the bat, R. P. Kernan caught very well, and showed vast improvement...
