Although not as many candidates as usual presented themselves this year, yet the men have so far shown up fairly well and the team will probably be up to the usual standard of freshman teams. Five of the men have been taken to the 'Varsity squad and as soon as others show any marked proficiency they will be taken also. W. L. ...faults of the crew are partly due to the tank and are made more apparent by the extremely slow stroke they have been rowing. Most of the men swing back too far and pull out of the water at the finish. They are slow in getting their hands away and are apt to be careless about time. A considerable improvement has been made of late in getting the oars down to the catch and in turning back from the recover without pause, and the men are also controlling their slides more evenly. ...Monthly for February, which will appear Friday, contains some unusually interesting matter. By far the best thing is an interesting little sketch by S. R. Wrightington entitled "Fair Harvard," dealing with the life of a poor student in a Western college. It is more cleverly handled than is usual with sketches of the kind and deserves great praise...
