...sharp contrast it is interesting to hear the opinion of Samuel Res. President of the Pennsylvania Railroad system and not a college graduate himself. "Other things being equal", said Mr. Rea recently, "the college man will go ahead faster and get further than the man who lacks that great initial advantage. We have reached the point where the preliminary training of a college or university course is no longer looked upon merely as an advantage but has become, practically speaking, a necessity for the young man who aims at a place in the executive forces." In the Pennsylvania system, where...

...Pennsylvania who placed-third, fourth, and fifth respectively last year are entered and may upset predictions. Lovejoy of Cornell, Hartranft, Stanford's great weight and dash man; McKim of Princeton, Foldman and Rusnack of Yale, Carter of Brown, and Graib of Columbia are only a few of the faster dash...

...prospects for a Crimson win in the 440-yard run are even less promising than in the sprints. Geilfuss, the best of the Elis, has covered the distance in 49 9-10 seconds, a good deal faster time than either Kent or J. H. Smith have done so far. In this event, as in many others. the success of the Crimson runners depends on the ability to win second and third places. Smith should be able to beat out Hodgkins, the other Yale entry...

Tech has a trio of fast 100-yard dash men in Heap, Hayes, and Howlett. Howlett, probably the fastest of these, ran second only to Gourdin last year and is considered to be as fast if not faster this year. To offset him the University will have Chase, Evans, Hovey, and Wansker. Chase is the University's best bet in the 220-yard dash, but M. I. T. with Poole, Howlett, and W. L. Smith might easily take two places, possibly winning the event. Chapin would have been a logical point winner in this event, but he can not take...

There is no space here to enter into the various ramifications that have brought this change to pass. From the discovery of a secret Russo-German treaty, ultimatum, reply, charge of ambiguity, counter-reply, and second ultimatum have followed "fast and ever faster," until the whole procedure is now entangled in a maze of words and assumed misunderstandings. And more than once has the disruption of the entire gathering been threatened. The atmosphere at Genoa is as calmly deliberative as must have been that in the vicinity of the Kilkenhy cats whose talls were knotted together. In a final effort...
