...subjects in the J.A.M.A. study had serious heart disease; all had or were about to have defibrillators implanted in their chests to shock their hearts out of episodes of potentially fatal arrhythmias. Two grams of fish oil a day did not reduce the incidence of those episodes or improve death rates. The study was well designed, but even its authors wonder about its significance for healthy people who want to eat right. Not much, to my mind.
