...these different directions show that dance music isn't just a fad, and that the future does hold promise; the question for me is how much any of this will catch on in the mainstream in the U.S. That Fatboy Slim is finally getting the airplay he deserves this late in his career seems to be a good sign. ...have heard of Fatboy Slim, but if you've been to the movies lately, you've probably heard his music. The British deejay specializes in "big beat," a bouncy blend of hip-hop and house music, and his songs have been featured in the trailers for such teen flicks as 10 Things I Hate About You, Go and She's All That. The album then takes a major U-turn in"Praise You," sporting a funky bass line, a pianoaccompaniment that sounds like it was written byBilly Joel and emotional soul vocals. Fatboy Slimkeeps the beats pumping with "Love Island," thebest and most Euro dance track, which would surgeany dance club with crowd adrenaline...

He notonly mixes beats and samples but also draws upon awide range of musical genres that are delicatelyblended into a funky, slamming, jazzy, high-energyswirling tornado of techno genius. The eleventracks do not amount to sixty minutes of monotonyand repetition, but instead boldly explores newavenues of music by using the roots of almostevery other pop musical genre. The result is arevolutionary album that will pave the way for awhole new outlook on synthetic...
