...would like to commend Arab columnist Hazem Saghiyeh for his commentary "It's Not All America's Fault" [VIEWPOINT, Oct. 15]. Saghiyeh wrote that the Arab world has a "certain fixation on the past" and has not established the free press, trade unions and civil society necessary for debating matters related to the common good. Nor have we resolved the question of political legitimacy. We in the Arab world seem unable to fathom the principle that charity starts at home. Unrest is never our fault. It is time for us to realize that we have to fix our own world...

...writing the songs seems to come back to him as he sings, bringing the audience into the intimate inner workings of the band. In fact, the only less-than-amazing point of the evening came when Rockwell Church sang “Chandelier.” This was no fault of their own, however, and would only have been awkward to anyone who knew that the Hubbard parents were in attendance. The words, “I’m trying not to be my father / In a positive kind of way” certainly had a new and interesting...

...last summer, the company's fortunes were souring quickly. The Firestone tire crisis had scorched Ford's image, whether or not Ford's Explorer SUV was partly at fault. The company launched a redesigned Explorer in January. The new machine exceeds safety requirements, and critics of the old Explorer, including Consumer Reports, hailed the new design as safe and efficient. But, like several other new vehicles over the last two years, the Explorer had initial quality problems and several thousand were recalled. The Explorer was the latest on a list that included the award-winning Ford Focus, the popular...

When the nation is confronted by an incomprehensible horror, Tinseltown's heavies usually throw up their hands and cry, "Not our fault!" The events of Sept. 11 have proved a strange exception. Last week ROBERT ALTMAN, director of the satires MASH, The Player and Dr. T and the Women, almost offered a mea culpa. "The movies set the pattern, and [the terrorists] have copied the movies," he said. "Nobody would have thought to commit an atrocity like that unless they'd seen it in a movie." That self-flagellation comes on the heels of remarks by JFK director OLIVER STONE...

...lack of fine performances in K-PAX is not the fault of its actors. The movie dies despite some talented people. The premise of an alien coming to Earth should provide endless opportunities for laughs and endearing moments, especially with such a fine character actor as Spacey in the role. But the role that catapulted Robin Williams to stardom on TV’s “Mork and Mindy” and flattered John Lithgow’s comic persona on his (now cancelled) sitcom “Third Rock from the Sun” gives Spacey no good...
