...Bartlesville scheme neatly bypasses FCC because, instead of the public air, it will use coaxial cable strung on telephone poles to link each set with the broadcast. And instead of alienating the local movie exhibitors, it has enlisted them as partners. The idea originated with Philadelphia's Jerrold Electronics Corp., which pioneered in wiring community antenna systems for towns too remote for ordinary TV signals. HUSH-A-PHONE fight has been lost by American Telephone & Telegraph Co. after eight-year court struggle. Bowing to a U.S. Court of Appeals order, FCC reversed its earlier decision and ruled finally that A.T. & T. cannot ban use of "Hush-A-Phone" shields, which slip over speaking end of telephone and permit user to speak without being easily overheard...
