In a study of some 1,900 men ages 42 to 60, Finnish researchers determined that the risk of heart attack was greater among men with high blood levels of iron than in those with lower readings. For each 1% increase in the amount of ferritin (a protein that binds iron), the risk of heart attack increased by 4%.
