Exam period holds a special challenge for a procrastinator. There are fewer people to go to Tommy's with three times a night, and the guilty conscience--an unfortunate by-product of procrastination--rears its ugly head...
Most of us, I suspect, would disagree with the latter half of Unger's proposition. It seems a bit extreme to assert that we are morally obligated to help remote, starving children. Few of us do (at least not by mailing in $1 to UNICEF), and even fewer of us feel bad about not doing so. Why? Because, intuitively, it just doesn't seem wrong to switch the channel when something like that comes on the screen...
...millennium approaches. Although Columbia University Press is to publish an English-language edition in 1999, Gorby has little hope for redemption at home. For reasons that are not clear, infants who are breast-fed have large amounts of bifidobacteria in their intestines. They also have fewer intestinal upsets. Dr. Jose Saavedra and colleagues at Hopkins have shown that Bb-12 prevents several types of diarrhea, including that caused by rotavirus, in hospitalized infants as young as four months. It has also been used to cure diarrhea in children of all ages. Products containing Bb-12 are available...
