...Harvard team broke its long series of defeats by winning from Amherst yesterday in a game that was without any remarkable features. Harvard played in the main an excellent game, though the batting was not very strong. Amherst did fairly well in the field, but had a tendency to make their errors at critical points. Today on Soldiers Field at 4 o'clock the '98 Baseball Team plays the '99 Team in the first game of the interclass series. The Sophomores have only one man, Goodridge, the captain, who played on the team last year. Most of last year's nine are either with the 'Varsity or College Nine. The College nine, especially, deprives '98 of many valuable players, as its infield is composed entirely of '98 men. The Freshmen have a good battery and are fielding well. Yesterday afternoon the preliminary round and part of the first round in the tennis tournament were played off on the Jarvis Field courts. None of the matches were particularly close or interesting, as none of the best players drew each other, with the exception of R. C. Thomas '96, and R. T. Parke '98. Their match was rather one sided as Parke did not play the game he did last fall when he won the tournament. The scores were as follows...
